    Shaka Smart Update Day 3

Well guys its appearing less and less likely. Smart has had a few talks with VT but they just arent willing to offer him the money he deserves. Weaver wants to barley raise his VCU salary with the idea Smart is better off at Tech because its a more powerful bball program. As noted days ago, Smart turned down 2.5 million from Illonis and 2.2 million from LSU in the past month alone. I'll keep you updated.

Good. I like Smart as a coach, but he would leave as soon as a big job came open. That could be after one year, if the UConn job opens up.

I totally disagree with you here. Even if he leaves it is on the assumption that he's done great things here, and we're much better off than we are today. It wouldn't be like Bill Foster leaving the cupboard bare. It would be after signing a couple of outstanding classes in all likelihood. And that would not be a bad thing at all. Not at all.

Not like any of it is, or ever was, realistic. Everyone should have known Weaver would not offer the $$$ it would take. That was a given from the very beginning, even if Smart's interest was not.

Tom Brands was a problem because he tried to get all the scholarship wrestlers to come with him en masse. He only got away with it because nobody gives a crap about college wrestling. If anyone tried to do that in basketball or football they would get crucified.

IRRC, he red-shirted this first class, and tried to take them when he left for Iowa. Weaver was hard nosed and wouldn't grant them a release. He wasn't too popular with the Iowa folks....

If Smart needs 2.5M+ to come to VT, then I agree. But it is plausible that he would come to VT for less than that. Weaver would definitely pay 1.8M or maybe up to 2M for Smart.

If you're going to try and hire one of the hottest coaches in hoops, at end of April no less, you better come correct with the money. You need to start at 2 Million minimum and work up from there. Otherwise you can stop saying his name, because you're not being serious about having a top program.

Put high price on leaving VT except for a couple of schools - like UConn; Ky
