There are things that Seth has done that will not come public most likely, unless some people start talking, that will make you realize you didn't want him at VT. I only know of a few of them and they are bad, but there is supposedly worse.
The way its is being perceived as having gone down isn't exactly 100% correct nor are they even like 80% correct. I don't Weaver or the Ath Dept. right now cares about how it is being perceived. They are taking a higher road in this now. Losing some recruits sucks, but we might bring in someone that gets them back or brings in more recruits and better ones.
Really, really well explained. Awesome post man. Thanks.Wed Apr 25 2012, 02:18 AM #1

Well, there have been whispers before about "things Seth has done". I've heard them from reliable people, too, and they tell me i wouldn't believe it if I heard it. And that I would understand why so many people can't stand the guy.
But they never reveal what those "things" are. (And I'm not saying you should either. Not asking someone to betray any confidences).
But as long as no one is going to share those things, I can't use them to form an opinion of him. All I can form an opinion on him as a person is his public persona. I saw him with tears in his eyes during the 2006 season when Coleman's father was dying, telling Coleman to take as much time as h needed to be with his father and talking about how he was across the country when his own father died. I saw him tearing up after games talking about how proud he was of the effort despite all the adversity the team had been through. I saw him working as hard as anyone to get recruits, and I have never heard ANYONE say he is dirty in any way -- and there aren't many coaches in college basketball that you don't hear any innuendo about these days. He appears to be a loving father. He is extremely passionate about his job. He never got arrested for drunk driving like many other basketball coaches I can think of, or did anything that I know of to embarrass the Hokie name. In his 9 years here the WORST trouble any of his players ever got into was Jarrell Eddie's pot possession thing a few years ago, a far cry from stuff that Dennis Mims, Rolan Roberts, or Kenny Harrell did. His players had a good graduation rate too.
So when I hear innuendo like yours -- and yes like I said I have heard it from other people besides you and people I believe to be reliable -- without any specifics it isn't going to change my opinion of the man. Honestly I can't even imagine "things that Seth has done.... that will make me realize I didn't want him at VT". Maybe it would, but until someone decides to share these things, it's hard for me to use that "information" to form a different opinion of him than I have. I can certainly imagine that his hard driving, aggressive personality would make him a real dick to work for or with -- but that's true of a lot of coaches. Certainly Bob Knight comes to mind.
If Weaver had come out and said that the lack of NCAA tournament appearances with the last team was the primary reason, or his inability to retain assistant coaches (which Weaver mentioend but didn't say was the primary reason) -- well, I could respect that. Certainly 5 straight years missing the tournament has to put a coach on thin ice. But talking about him not fitting in with the "family", or hearing repeatedly that Greenberg has "done things that would shock me" without knowing what they are -- I'm tired of it. I've given my opinion of Greenberg as a person, and I'm willing to allow FACTS to change that opinion, but the innuendo that can't be backed up in public because it's too sensitive just doesn't play. In my mind the guy did a lot for Tech and represented us very well for 9 years and made basketball matter again at VT, sent his daughter to Tech, had a great relationship with the students (his weekly chalk talks), and I'm not going to change that opinion based on people telling me if I knew the awful things he had done I would want him gone. If he is Jerry Sandusky, then anyone who knows or even suspects should have alerted the police. If he is not a pleasant person to work for or with, I wouldn't be surprised and it wouldn't bother me that much. A lot of coaches have that personality. If you can't share what you know, that's fine, but don't expect others who respect Greenberg for his work at Tech to suddenly be on board with dumping him because he isn't "family" based on innuendo that isn't backed up.

That really does need to be done. The audio/visual on the press conference was very telling, and in a bad way. I've no problem with Weaver getting his $350K a year or whatever it is, but he REALLY needs to be removed from all decision making responsibilities.
