I have 3 80 gallon rain barrels .....keeps my garden lush! Also quite good exercise to haul watering cans to the garden!

Anyway, so last night we get the first rain since I put that in. After about 6 hours of moderate rain, the thing is overflowing...
Sort of surprised at how quickly the water piled up. I suppose if I set a barrel up on each downspout, I could have easily collected a couple hundred gallons of water from this one little weather system. Makes me curious about getting a system to purify and store this water for house use as well. I'm sure it would probably be cost prohibitive to get started, but it would be sort of cool to get "off the grid" (or whatever its called when you're talking about water). Anybody here doing anything with rain water?
No, I do not plan on buying granola in bulk or hugging any trees on the way home.
