Deck Staining... Brand I should look for?

Looking to restain the front and back, made of all wood. Want something that will last at least 5 years. Any recommendations on brand, or does it really matter?

Cabot is rated highly, but expensive.

Cabot Australian Timber Oil. Expecting five years from a stain means that you have to have unique luck to get that performance. It can happen, but seldom does. It's like going 20K miles between oil changes with your vehicle.

It does matter and for the most part you get what you pay for. the less expensive brands really do not last as well.
If your deck is exposed to weather and sun five years is unrealistic. 2-3 is about all you can really expect.
I don't always talk to UVa Grads but when I do I always order the Large Fries.

Be sure to clean it well, and wait a few days for water to evaporate before applying the stain.

I used this. Only 2 years in, but it's looking good. I was afraid since it was just an "oil", or a combination of oils, that it wouldn't last. It's doing really well so far.
Reports I've seen say if it's longevity that's most important, the pricier opaque stains (paint, IMO) are the way to go.

I have used Sikkens for years, but with the last go-round, they priced themselves out of my future. The first gallon I bought back in 1999 cost $45. The last gallon I bought, last year, cost $80. I can't do it anymore, even though I believe in the product. It's just too expensive.

I used some different stuff on my dad's dock last summer -- Olympic Maximum Semi-Transparent Deck, Fence and Siding Stain -- that cost about $150 for a five-gallon barrel. It looks fantastic and seems like quality stuff. We'll see how well it lasts, though.
