It could very well be Jim Weaver pulling a CYA by saying it wasn't about the money, when Johnson left for a 33% pay increase. How is it not about the money? He left VT for Clemson, which is about as close to VT as you can get in the college basketball landscape, the sole exception being Clemson has five decades of ACC membership on their resume.

Sort of like the gal saying - 'It's not you, it's me...' as she crushes you by leaving you to sleep with your best friend.

The Beamer saga had a lot of layers to it, none of which really matter that much any more.

They have been getting raises every year. Is anyone else in America? The real question is how do we get the ridiculous salary inflation in sports under control?

Stop supporting sporting events. The money is in the system, from ticket prices to TV contracts.

Yeah, can we please stop with the Beamer analogies? They're non-starters.

Because Weaver is going outside of/exceeding his approved operational budget. Just like any business you go to the CEO/president to get approval.

But essentially he is the CEO/president of the athletic department. I can't see Steger being that involved in the operation of athletics.

I thought that was what I was doing. Perhaps you should direct that to those who originated the analogy and not to me when I say - 'The Beamer saga had a lot of layers to it, none of which really matter that much any more.' That certainly seemed like a dismissal to me.

I'll agree with you that VT football and VT basketball analogies are pointless and not at all related.
