GCHokie34's post below got me thinking about our AD and his seeming lack of interest in basketball (as opposed to football). I wonder how many VT hoops fans realize that for all but 10 of the past 60+ years, the VT AD has been a football coach? Moseley, then Dooley, then Weaver all came from football backgrounds. The only ones to break that pattern were Baughman (for only 1 year) and Braine. And I'm assuming neither one of those guys was a football coach- could not find a good bio on either.
Not to say that it's impossible for a coach who specializes in one sport (and the one sport that dominates most athletic depts anyway) to run a well-rounded overall athletic program... but still, it would be nice if VT's next AD maybe broke the mold a little...

Believe Dave Braine may have been on the UVa coaching staff in some capacity in the past, then moved into athletic administration I think...

Great Observation. I hope our next AD really strives to increase our investment in BBall. Football will always be king at VT, but I do believe with a little more dedication from the AD and fans our basketball team can become a team that makes the tournament 4 or 5 out of 10 years. We will never be Duke but we have the potential to be better than our current level, IMO.

Football is not, nor never has been 'king' at Duke. Any and every version of ACC sports history disproves that. College football certainly trumps college basketball in many locations, but certainly not in all, even in BCS conferences.

No, we support basketball more than they do football. Seriously, Duke really does not want to succeed in football. It would cost them money that they would prefer to spend on basketball. VT wants good basketball, it's just that we apply a football mentality to it.
