He hired his mistress to be part of the football staff, and then lied to his AD about her. Head football coaches have been fired for less (Mike Price at Alabama).

Is this the AD that hired Petrino in the first place, or is this a new AD?
If this is the AD that hired Petrino, they should have known what they were getting when they hired him (i.e. someone who is a bit shady/slimey but manages to stay 1 step ahead of the repercussions). Wouldn't seem right to act surprised now that something slightly unethical has come to light.

Slim (but existent) chance he's fired IMO
Price was fired for less, but IMO, Price's firing was also largely due to the fact that he was an underwhelming hire to begin with and any excuse to can him would be taken. Similar to O'Leary at Notre Dame IMO. Petrino is otherwise popular there and has been successful. It's harder to push an established guy off the perch rather than someone who has yet to coach a practice.. much less a game.
But, he did get what appears to be a potential mistress on the football staff... and that relationship was never disclosed to the appropriate people. That is a big ethical issue. IMO, in the end, he'll take a financial hit on the contract, issue a big apology, and he'll be back on staff by June.
