Any potential VT recruit that reads "informed sources" indicating that the head coach is harboring a deep desire to bail out is going to think twice about VT. Period. He can say it is already out there but that doesnt wash unless he is just another internet poster speculating. That would be having it both ways. At minimum he as "guru" is confiming the "rumors" and furthermore prssenting the head coach it in a unflattering light.

I have news for you, almost every coach out there has a deep desire to have the best deal that they can get.

And so does a recruit. And so do you. Why deny human nature, which is what you are suggesting.

I cannot see why that would convey to a recruit or anyone that he was going anywhere.

It's my opinion that what really upsets Vippie1 about Hokie83's post is that part about SMU blowing Seth off. It doesn't fit the portion of the Seth Is Great template that many schools would be overjoyed to hire someone of Seth's caliber.

A question about your last line. If the "horse's mouth" says no interest, why does the "guru" not believe the "horse's mouth"? If you expect the recruit to belive said horse, why doesn't (or won't) everyone else?

If Greenberg doesn't want something like this to affect a recruit, he doesn't need to look for a job. That's not to say he shouldn't look for an opportunity he thinks is better. I'm sure he's doing the best job he can for VT, but if he's checking into other opportunities, it's going to come back on him.

I've identified that part that you made up.

Being interested in another opportunity or exploring your options are not tantamount to a "deep desire to leave." I freaking love my job. That doesn't stop me from looking at new job openings all the time, and it doesn't reflect a "deep desire" for anything other than a lack of complacency. I have no desire to leave my job. That doesn't mean that there might not be a better situation out there for me, and if there is, I want to know about it so I can weigh all of my options.

This is how careers in the real world work every day, all the time. You're making it more than it is. Again, Seth Greenberg is the person currently employed as the head basketball coach of the team you root for. Seth Greenberg is not your spouse, boyfreind, or part-time lover.

Not tryingto defend Vippie, but what if your name was mentioned on a message board that covers your company that said you were interested in working for a competitor? Does that not seem innapropriate?

Neither has to be lying. On Jim Rome today Seth said he was not contacted by SMU and that he was not going anywhere. That doesn't mean:

he wasn't interested in the SMU job
He did not speak to Dave Braine (not an SMU employee)
his agent didn't reach out to SMU

I believe you might be correct on 2 out of the 3. I doubt that SG would consult Braine, or Braine would confer with SG. And the fact that they are neighbors means absolutely nothing.
