Watching Ketucky shows me VT has a loooong way to go...

that team has unbelievable talent. When 7 of their players are better than our best player it just reinforces that VT just doesn't have the talent. VT will need to strike gold like they did with MV in football but it's much harder to keep a talent under the radar in basketball

VT will NEVER be Kentucky in basketball. We struck gold with Beamer and Vick and are still light years from Bama in football, for example. The chances of us getting that lucky in basketball aren't that high so it's not really hard to do the math.

Well this is stating the absolute obvious. There is no comparison between the two programs. Kentucky is one of the most stories basketball programs in the country. Virginia Tech has very little to no basketball history.

Not to mention the fact that Calipari is the coach there. I wouldn't trade for having their success and the amount of shady recruiting and violations they commit. I would rather run a clean program that I could be proud of and hopefully we can slowly build and become a bigger force over the years.

VT doesn't have to be Kentucky, or UNC, or Kansas, etc ... but rather a team that has sustained average to above average success. Programs like Wake (although awful now) and Maryland have had periods of success, including occasional deep tournament runs. That is what fans can and should expect, IMO.

Also, in basketball, it really only takes 1 stud player to start a change in the program ... 2 players can almost carry a team into the post season. Not like in football, where you really have to improve recruiting for a lengthy period. If Seth (should he be the one to "right the ship") can go out and get 2-3 real PLAYERS, the program can turn around quickly. I wish he'd tweak his style of play, too. Have to build some positive momentum. It's a shame the selection committee crapped on VT the past several years, because they really COULD have built some momentum from that. I just hope this season was a hiccup, and that things will start trending back up now.

I'm not aware of any violations Kentucky has committed under Calipari. I remember the kid from Turkey (Katner?) who was ruled ineligible because of something he did before coming to UK, but nothing else. Can you enlighten me on what violations Kentucky and Calipari have committed there? At an Orange and Maroon dinner a few years ago, I heard Seth Greenberg talk about Calipari. Apparently they're good friends, and Seth admires him greatly as a coach, recruiter, and mentor. Seth has always been a very honest and upfront guy. So take that FWIW.

I will probably get hammered for this...but if being a Kentucky or UNC means we have to recruit a bunch of "one and dones" who are only playing College hoops because they have to...I cannot get super excited. It strikes me as basically semi-pro basketball. I like watching kids develop for several years and then wearing a cap and gown and receiving a degree. Maybe I would feel differently if we snagged these blue-chip players and dominated the ACC...but that is not going to happen in Blacksburg, Va. I want to be better in Basketball, but not if we have to become another "factory". Look at the Elite 8 and who is left...there really is not one team left that is a compelling story.

I was just about to say the same thing. I truly enjoy watching them play. How could Indiana ever have imagined scoring 90 points and losing? Incredible game.

I would guess Kentucky fans have the same feeling when they watch VT play football

Give it time. He put UMass and Memphis on probation. Kentucky knew what they were getting. They made their choice.

Again, the Camby situation and Rose situation were determined to be independent of Cali. Maybe they were, maybe they were not. But, I tend to let my opinions be swayed more by fact, than by internet rumor.
