So when you start thinking of what it takes to pull in an attractive midmajor coach like Smart, Jacobson, Stevens etc this is the kind of package you'll be facing going forward with more and more midmajors being able to pay over a million a year to keep their coaches in place. Even to land a guy like Chris Mooney you're going to have to find money to pay him like the 2.3million that Frank Beamed makes. Just something to keep in mind going forward.

What coach, and at what price South Carolina gets will also be a statement on the current market.
What happens with all those assistants that Coach K is grooming down at Duke? Is there a history of his assistants going on to get head coaching jobs and doing well? Or do they just stay with him for a long time with very little turnover?

If I was hiring, I would give serious consideration to someone who learned from years under a great coach like coach K at a top program that has won national titles. In many ways I think that is more valuable than a good midmajor coach.
