Looking at the post (ok, mid, perhaps) realignment landscape

it doesn't really seem like anybody got any better. The SEC adds Missouri and aTm, PAC 12 gets Utah and Colorado...both very blah moves competitively. ACC gets Pitt and Syracuse, which is good for hoops (maybe), Big 12 gets TCU, WVU, BE gets effectively destroyed. The whole thing seems like, to paraphrase Livia Soprano, a "big nothing."

I know the conferences will get more money but on the field...

Outside of the BE/LEFC which was as you said destroyed, The P10 move to add Colorado & Utah was a terrible blunder. I can't believe Utah nor Colorado add anything to the PAC, except qualify them for a playoff game.

Colorado has, for most of their years, never been a football power. A couple of decades ago, they were pretty strong, but nothing before or after. And Utah has never been a powerhouse, except for maybe one year.

And I can't believe Utah adds squat to any PAC12 TV contract, and I don't believe Colorado will had that much value.

Colorado helped them get an extra NCAA tourney unit (which =$) by making the dance this year...just saying...

Colorado brings the Denver TV market and Utah brings Salt Lake City. Neither is huge, but it expands the geographic footprint significantly, and thus will be broadcast in many more homes. It makes not sense (from a TV contract standpoint) to expand with teams that do not expand their TV footprint. Colorado and Utah both add significantly in that respect. Wait till they add Texas and another Big 12 team...

P10's 1st and 2nd round expansion draft picks make Oakland's NFL picks look logical. They jumped up and grabbed two marginal programs way too early. There isn't a conference expansion that went worse imo. ACC picked up a couple 10 caliber hoops programs, SEC picked up good hoops/decent FB in Mizzou and passionate FB fans in aTm, B12 hung in there as best they good (I don't like WVU for them long term tho), and B10 grabbed great FB program in Neb. P10 got a bottom dweller in B12 play and a midmajor team. Just awful for them. 2 more mouths to feed with minimal ROI.

Wrong, they just locked down TWO timezones. They not only get ALL the TV sets in Colorado and Utah, but they get ALL of them in Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and New Mexico as well. While those states aren't heavily populated, there is still something to be said for locking down 7 states by adding two teams. It isn't astrophysics, look at a map. I think it was a brilliant move by the Pac12. They are no longer the Pacific coast conference, they are the western half of the United States conference.

But that only adds about 500K viewers, right?

Nope, try over 16 million. It would be the equivalent of adding NC and va. Not a bad move really. If I were them, I would add two more from within that region Inorder to truly lock down that huge and rapidly growing footprint. And on the field, those are two fairly decent Athletic Departments. It will be interesting to see how they do with PAC 12 money. Utah had been operating on peanuts up until the move.

Why exactly does adding Colorado/Utah give you Nevada, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho or NM? That makes less sense than saying B12 picking up WVU gives them WV as well as their bordering states (VA, PA, ...).

The cable outlets, TV stations, newspapers, etc... will be covering the Pac12 from Colorado westward in the future. Or they'll atleast be covering them much more than the Big12 or Big 10. Do you not agree with that? http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lannj1asg31qbymuj.jpg
