So if they want Team B over Team A one year and Team B has a higher RPI than they will say that is the reason they picked them. However if they want Team B over Team A in another year but yet Team A has a better RPI, but doesn't have more Top 50 wins than Team B, than they will use that stat. However in another year if they want Team B over Team A but yet Team A has more top 50 RPI win's than Team B, than they will use OOC or vs top 100/200 record against Team A so they can justify selecting Team B. You follow here? This process is called arbitrary.
I don't think anyone denies that it's a subjective criteria. It is. If I wanted to, I could use all kinds of arguments, stats, etc. for teams in the 31-45 range of why Team X should be in over Team Y. The best counter for a bubble team is to win more games.

Obviously you want to win more games, but that still doesn't change the fact that a random committee can pick who they want in the end. In the case of Virginia Tech, it could cost people's jobs.

Well, Drexel has a half dozen wins against 20 win teams...Iona lost to a 10 win Hofsta team....

Bad losses and no good wins. They're in the tourney (by the chair's admission) based on good losses. Some years, its the exact opposite. Stoopidt system, period...

Ok. Win more games and get off the bubble.

Is that all you got? The system needs to be changed. The good Rev puts it into pretty good perspective through his twitter today:

Also cvillehoop13 gave some pretty good arguments today. But whatever, "just win more games" just can't do in everyone's situation. There are always going to be teams who are on the "bubble". The way they pick from those teams is the real travesty.

When I think of travesties, mediocre bubble teams who don't qualify for a tournament designed to crown a national champion due to subjective criteria by a committee ranks pretty far down the list.

Only Cleveland State was outside of their conference, which was not very good this year. And Cleveland State didn't make the NCAA field.

So we agree there is some personal bias when selecting bubble teams then? Correct? That's what we have reached?

Mediocre teams don't beat #1 teams late in the season, then another team that qualifies for the NCAA tourney in their conference tournament. Or finish fourth in their conference.

Yes, there is bias in everyone's opinions, judgments, rankings, etc, whether it's intended or not. That's not new. We didn't make the tournament the last few years for a number of reasons. Bias was immaterial in keeping us out.
