I don't think anyone denies that it's a subjective criteria. It is. If I wanted to, I could use all kinds of arguments, stats, etc. for teams in the 31-45 range of why Team X should be in over Team Y. The best counter for a bubble team is to win more games.
Obviously you want to win more games, but that still doesn't change the fact that a random committee can pick who they want in the end. In the case of Virginia Tech, it could cost people's jobs.
