That just means that increased donations from the rich are offsetting declining (or no) donations from others. We've gone from where a few years ago, you had to give over $1000 to get a new season ticket order filled to now where non-donors potentially will get new season ticket orders filled. So the total number of customers is dropping, even though the smaller group of customers is shelling out more money.
That's not sustainable since if the bidding war starts to end, donations will gradually fall, but presumably the economy won't stay bad forever.

If you don't mind telling, how much was your bump up? I only bumped up another $100. Wonder what the threshold would have been for me to at least stay even?

Here's my guess. Some who have held back in the past saw this as their time to move up, similar to the rush for the MNC seats. They jumped some of the prior season ticket holders. Those prior holders are tired of playing the game again, so they're bailing. The folks who stepped up and jumped the others probably could have done so for a lot less.
I will never understand people.
They're the worst!

I don't see that happening. The ACC gets a lot more money from television contracts than from butts in the seats I would think.

That is just flat out wrong. The data is available and as I've posted before, there has been incredible growth in the Hokie Club since the last reseating. At the last reseating, the top ranked Golden was 1160. The top Golden Hokie is now 1750. That means that about 3,600 additional seats will be selected this time before the that individual picks their seat. Assuming same distance from the field, that person will lose at least 20 yards of field position. The math is the same up and down the rankings. The top platinum is now 1207. At the last reseating, the top Platinum was 776.
I know Golden Champions that fell more than 200 spots in the rankings just between September 2011 and 12/31/2011.
There is absolutely no way that people are going to "greatly improve seating location" unless they greatly increased their contribution.
