Yet, if this had happened at Virginia Tech, all of the detractors would have come out of the woodwork, outraged that the VT administration didn't lock the whole place down. A gunman robs a student at gunpoint and fires shots in the process, on or near the campus of a state university. Why is it less threatening if it happens in Richmond than in Blacksburg?
It's hard to lock down ANY sprawling university, whether it's in the middle of Richmond or in the middle of Blacksburg. I just think it's a bit of a double standard that people were outraged that the VT administration didn't lock down the university when a gunman robbed a real estate office in Radford and was reported heading west on a major highway that just happened to run PAST Blacksburg, yet gunplay is involved regularly on or near the VCU campus, but no one bats an eye.
Off soapbox now.
