I was a bit surprised top see the amount of belly-aching regardingt he schedule. My first gut reaction was that it was fairly awesome. Getting GT to open seems to be a big advantage, and the VT vs. FSU Thursday night game has a chance to be really, really special (if both teams "hold serve" up to that point, it could be a couple of top 5 teams involved there). Anyway...look above for the poll...

I have no complaints about the schedule. Certainly there are things that could be better about it, but rarely is a schedule ever going to be "perfect".
People complain just for the sake of complaining. It's an epidemic in today's world...Let's Go Hokies! #Beat Bama

Defensively? Yes, you betcha! Bud has to be thrilled. Offensively? Not so
much.
How much will a brand-spanking-new offense outside of the Adonis in cleats otherwise know as L.T. realistically gelled by then? Wang and Via are likely out for the spring. D.Roberts has been injury prone. Ditto every likely starting oLineman not named Becton.
I just looked it up for the purposes of objectifying this post.
44th best in total defense with 9 back does not suck.
Gah.Tech is opening up tough.
All the more so with the entire oLine and the entire Flex-Bone battery back (less 1 A-back) for the always nose thumbing Coach P.J.
Now mix-in the trifecta of toughs all of which enjoy BYE weeks before they play Vah.Tech otherwise known as @ Klempson, @ Miami, home for F.S.U. and you suddenly have the largest swing-season for VT in recent memory. 8-4 all the way up to 11-1; all R.A.T.T. in play.
This VT oLine reallllllly needs to slip by GT and therefore buy 6 more games that are quite winnable in order to improve and mesh. They also can afford basically zero injuries all season long.

I really like the teams that we play. Any year we draw FSU and Clemson is good by me. Might not be good for making it to Charlotte, but it is good from a fun perspective. Plus we play 2 winnable games against BCS foes. However the way it sets up is not good. Lots of artificial advantages for the tough teams on our schedule, and a very unfriendly schedule for season ticket holders.

Is Wang's absence this Spring confirmed?

@IV: I like how you put that "artificial advantages"...

The official party-line will likely read:
"limited".
That said, he looked (basically) a-ok at the end of the season and could have risked playing in say a MNC everything on the line kinda game. I am not (yet) sure if this is just extra precautionary measure or JIC; or if there has been something else.

Would have liked to see the FSU game on a Saturday. Our biggest game shouldn't be on Thursday IMHO. Otherwise schedule is ok.

Disagry 100%...do you want it burried amongst 20 other games on a Saturday, or full national audience with no competition on a Thursday? I think the exposure of the Thursday game is awesome (think about how our team's entrance is "produced" by ESPN for Thursday games compared to Saturday games). Imagine the hype if both teams are undefeated! That would related to about .95 of a "gameday" game, IMO. I like it a lot. If an out of town season ticket holder can't jostle around their schedule for that one event, then that stinks for them. I'm guessing thats a pretty small number of folks.
