how does that really improve anything at all? if you can't pick a #1 team or a #2 team, who in their right mind thinks you can distinguish between #3-8 in about 50% of the years? They haven't improved anything. They just increased the odds of a team playing nobody all season getting an MNC.

I think this is worse than what we currently have.

i think it's more about making #1 and #2 prove they are #1 and #2 by beating top 5 caliber teams, and if they can't, this is giving those top 5 teams their shot to go on the road and beat #1 and #2. i think the biggest flaw in the current system is the lack of OOC games between top 10 teams. that is what you truly need more of to best determine who #1 and #2 are. since they won't schedule each other, make them play at the end of the year for the right to be in the MNC (still don't think we could drop the M, sorry).

Of course, this is also an argument for why LSU should've won the national championship this year by popular acclimation w/o even having to play a bowl game. They beat Oregon and Alabama during the regular season, both away from home. In fact, they beat the Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Orange Bowl, Gator Bowl, and CFA Bowl champs, as well as the eventual winner of the MNC(!) - all in the regular season. Crazy that they had to play another game.

this year was an exception, not a rule. rarely does a #1 or #2 team play that kind of schedule and remain at #1 or #2. while i feel bad for LSU, the fact is, that's not common. also, because polls are 2/3 of the current process, with 120 teams, bias plays WAY too much of a part in the rankings. personally, i think the 'best' way to handle the post season would be 10 conference champs (reg season champs, no championship games unless they are simply used as a tie-breaker) with the top 6 getting a bye because that would eliminate ALL bias from the process, but that ain't happenin...

Right, but that's why I'm in favor of a return to the old system from the 80s, is all I'm saying. LSU probably would've played...I don't know...Stanford or Boise State or K-State in the Sugar Bowl in the old system. It would've been a coronation. (Or not. Maybe Stanford would've messed with them a little bit.)

My #1 goal for college football's post-season is a return to the former greatness of NYD. That is clearly not going to happen. So if we can't turn back the clock, then we might as well just go with the 1-AA playoff model.

I like a plus one model, but I am not talking about a four team playoff. I want to play the Orange, Rose, Cotton, Sugar, and Fiesta Bowls and NYD and then vote on #1 and #2 who play the following week.

I agree on bringing back NYD. That's my major complaint with the BCS. It has ruined what was the best day of the year.

Yup. Having a bunch of midweek games sucks.
