The bottom line is no one can prove how things would have turned out regardless if Evans three is waived off. Sure it's easy to say "we lost by 2" but it's not as simple as that. Had they reviewed the play, undoubtedly the coaches would have called the teams over and drawn some things up, everything from that point on would have been completely different, and remember we still would have had a 5 point lead.
And guys, I'm not just saying this to troll, but a couple extremely crucial calls also went your way. The Joe Harris timeout.. I mean come on. That's just an official not understanding a rule change. There is no question whatsoever that his foot is planted, after one skip, for 2 seconds as he is calling the timeout. The rule is clear. He should have been granted it. Instead of UVA getting a chance to tie and swing momentum, Raines gets a thunder dunk that brings the house down and the Hokies go on a run. Even there though, you can't predict what would happen.. maybe Tech steals the in bound and gets a dunk anyways?
The VAsportsTV.com camera angle clearly shows that not only did the Hokies not have possession on that loose ball when you were granted timeout.. it was actually hanging precariously through three people. The official that blew the whistle was the one guy that had his view completely blocked. When Sammy Zeglinski fouled out of the game, review of the play shows that it was clearly Joe Harris who made contact, Sam literally did not touch him. Would the end have played out differently if he we had one of our PG's?
Would the game have played out differently without lengthy delays, in essence time outs, to fix the clock? Most certainly would have.
One of your own fans a couple threads down acknowledges that most of the calls last night went your way. If any is made differently, we don't get to the Jontel banked three. I know this kind of logic is really hard to swallow after a tough loss, and I'm not asking you to agree, but it is what it is. I don't blame you for being upset, but the truth is that was a REALLY poorly officiated game for both sides. The zebras did everything in their power to have an effect on the outcome of the game, and that is truly unfortunate, because that was a hard fought quality basketball game where kids on both sides were giving it their all. Kudos to your squad. Your young talent is progressing nicely, you guys will be a force in the coming years.
Seriously though, you guys need to upgrade that arena. Even if you don't build a new one for some time, you have to be able to sink a little money into a facelift.
