But VT's D wold rank near the top of the SEC every year. Nobody in the SEC save Bama and LSU approach our D over the last 10 years....this is not to say there's no room for improvement on the DL, there is, Bud does a great job of bridging the depth gap; just saying that's not "the problem".
What we NEEEEEEEEEEED is an OLINE and coaching that can move the ball against these type of defenses. We've had a D good enough to win the national title more times than we haven't.
Come on, our D would be below the average of the SEC. Our D all these years has been great vs the offenses we play but when real pressure is bought to bear, our D has not done that well.
The idea we would be near the top is totally without real evidence to support it. I actually shudder to think what the same level of player would do even under who we agree is one of the best defensive coaches out there, against week in and week out SEC competition.
