So are you saying you don't expect us to make ncaa tournaments? Because if people don't expect us to be top half in the acc there is NO WAY IN HELL we make ncaa tournaments.... yet the lack of making them is a reason cited for wanting SG out

Do I expect the Virginia Tech Basketball Team to ever make the NCAA tournament? Yes.

Do I think the Virginia Tech Basketball team should make the NCAA tournament every year? No.

Do I think the Virginia Tech Basketball team should make the NCAA tournament more than once a decade? Yes.

See, that's what you don't understand. You keep making up things that I'm not actually saying. I've been very clear this whole thread. I never said "we shouldn't" do anything. I'm saying that if you don't want to be subject to the very tiny percentage of the process that is "arbitrary," then you need to play well enough to ensure that you are instead part of the 94% for whom the process is not "arbitrary." I also said that the small percentage of the process for which the selection is arbitrary, does not invalidate the entirety of the process as "arbitrary."

Don't forget the 80% of teams who play BAD enough to "not be on the bubble". I understand if we don't want to be subjected to the arbitrary process we need to either play good enough to be a lock or bad enough to not be considered... but my point is, SG can't just snap his fingers to make us good enough to not be a part of the arbitrary process. We both know he is giving it his all, fighting through unbelievable bad luck and surrounding circumstances, and has still vastly improved this program, as a whole.

Yes a telling post indeed...it was a freaking joke. Stop taking crap so seriously, its a discussion board. People come on here to present their views, and that is whats going on here. Obviously everyone isn't going to agree. By claiming that reading this thread will decrease your IQ points by 9 was a half-hearted joke, and I got that. Figured I'd play along too. Guess some take themselves too seriously.

Because that season was a perfect storm. Duke and UNC were at the top of the polls all year, and we had two overtime road wins and a home win against them. We got to play UVA twice who had the easiest ACC schedule known to man that year, which boosted their ranking, and our RPI as well. We still had questionable losses that year, and no OOC marquee wins. Therefore, it was like other years, except we had bigger conference/road wins. Beating Duke/UNC three times is only going to happen once in a blue moon. My point is, that is what mostly got us in the tournament that year. Minus those games, everything looks similar to the past couple years IMO.

The conference as a whole was so much better that year. The worst team that season was Miami at RPI 159. All the wins against Duke and UNC sure were feathers in the cap, but Duke wasn't even really "Duke" that year. Beating Maryland was just as important that year as beating Duke. We also beat (ironically) ODU that year OOC and they were RPI 37, snerk if you will but that was our best OOC win since PSU last year, who was RPI 39. OOC SOS was just abysmal in the years between. Plus we really only had two bad losses that year, and they werre both away.

That 2006-2007 year was a solid year by pretty much every measure. Those big wins were great absolutely, but even without them, overall the last few years have not been very similar to that year.
