Paper this morning and just wondered what the reaction to it would be on here. I don't see it.
The letter basically stated that VT women deserved much more than they are getting from Jim Weaver and, not so much against the person of Coach Wolfe but the way he was hired was a loud public statement that VT does not care about WBB. The writer commented that his first thought was "Wow JW put no effort into this at all."
It seemed to me that "effort" to him would have been a public national search over weeks if not months to "find" that high energy, future before them coach.
What do you guys think?
Was it, IYHO no or very little effort by Weaver? Or was in more that Weaver had put in a lot more effort testing the waters and looking for that high energy, future in front of them coach over the last couple of years than any of us know but that "search" was behind the scenes? The result being that bringing in Coach Wolfe for the year as a "Coach in Waiting" was a better option than trying a 2nd, more public search again after Beth was officially gone.
I don't think anyone can say that JW didn't know that Beth would be gone a couple of years before she actually left. So was this a much better search than it appeared to be? Or do you think moving Coach Wolfe was a no effort after thought?

Personally I don't care if Wolff was just an easy choice or if a lot of thought actually went behind it. Wolff and his coaching staff are turning this team around and is the right choice in my opinion. His style of coaching is exactly what they need right now and I think within the next year or so we will be respectable again with his leadership. I have never seen this team play with the amount of effort that they have played with this year in a very long time, and in the long run that is going to pay off for them. Plus they seem to be running plays better and they definitely are much better defensively. Their problem right now is not shooting the ball well and fatigue, it is not effort or coaching.

Yup. Might've been a "convenient" hire when compared to a normal national search, but that doesn't automatically equate to a poor hire. Dennis knows basketball, has assembled a knowledgable, personable, hard-working staff, and has already signed 3 promising recruits, with up to 4 more scholarships to offer for next year.
Beth and her staff were given 7 years to ruin this program. I think Dennis and his staff deserve at least 3 years before passing a preliminary judgment on his performance.
Personally, I really like this entire staff. I have a hell of a lot more confidence in them to conduct their business professionally and get things turned around than I ever had in Beth and her staff.

I like the hire of Coach Wolff, I thought the same thing at first, JW didn't do a search for a new coach. He might not,who knows, But Wolff and his staff are doing a great job and like you said, shooting is hurting this team. IMHO, I look for Coach Wolff to turn this team over to one of his assisants when he decides to give it up, and that could be in a couple years. These young ladies plays with alot of heart and don't quit !!

Only time will tell. Could be a great hire. However, JW certainly left himself open for criticism if Wolff fails. Whenever you hire the guy down the hall, you are taking that risk.

I don't want to sound like a misogynist, but I like the idea of hiring a Men's coach to coach the women. I've been curious if the men coaches are working with more intensity and that if they could learn to communicate to the women, how would that translate. I have zero clue and I look at Wolfe as a great test. So far, his results recruiting and coaching this season have been above my expectations. I know that my expectations were low, but still.
