Take a good product that people like and change it "for the better" and suddenly the customers go away. Netflix redux.

What about all the new people it will bring because they are used to forums that are in this format?

Maybe I'm just old beyond my years (30), but I'm not digging the new format either...
Of course, I always resist change. I have always HATED vBulletin forums, and as such, TSL is the only message board I have ever frequented or posted on. I never had any issues with the way the old site was formatted. To me, it was simple and easy to navigate. All of the options on the new site are a nuisance to me, and I don't like having to adjust the preferences to order the threads by thread start time (like the old site) every time I open the site.
I know times and technologies change, and you either have to keep up with the changes or get left behind. I also know most everyone seems to love the new look, and I have a feeling I'll be getting left behind on this issue. I spent way too much time reading TSL before anyway, so maybe this is the nudge I need to start being more productive with my free time. It will be hard saying goodbye.Last edited by MP4VT2004; Fri Jan 13 2012 at 12:39 AM.

Valid point IMO.
New site has WAY too much extraneous puffery all around it

There's too much doneage in the message view area. The message view replicates the message header with the body and there's like 14 layers of crap in around the message. It's definitely not the TSL of old...manageable but cumbersome.

Netflix massively increased their prices... big difference here (more)
Netflix was more about the pricing than the user experience. It's human nature to resist UI changes, unless something is broken. TSL wasn't broken, however this new user experience is far superior. It just takes some time to get used to. It may have been wiser to incrementally add features instead of 1 massive overhaul like they did, but that may have been technically more challenging. Regardless, there's a few things i'm not a fan of, but overall there's a lot more positive changes than negatives.

I've never seen a forum in this format. Is there a setting I can make it look like all the other forums out there where it is sorted by topic with the latest post?
