The expectations of some people on this board are mind boggling
I think everyone agrees we were robbed of a tourney bid several times the last few seasons. That means we SHOULD have made the tournament already 3 times under SG. In addition to very good regular seasons in the ACC, in addition to beating UNC and Duke more than once and beating a #1 Wake Forest team on the road, in addition to the new facilities and increased good recruiting. Seth has done a lot of good, so much that our fans and even the media expect WAY too much from what I see as a very average, maybe even slightly below average team right now...
THIS SEASON: We should not be a good team. We lost two 4 year starters in Delaney and Allen, our best defender in Bell, and are without Chaney and JT Thompson again (two guys who could've helped offset the losses of the other 3). I just don't know what you guys expect. I mean look at our roster.... who should be scoring 15ppg that isn't? Who should be getting 10rpg that isn't? Davilla is a huge disappointment as a senior, but after watching him for 3 years... is anyone really surprised? Dorenzo is clearly hurting. The rest of the guys are young and small.
I just think when looking at our starting lineup and our bench and comparing it to what other teams have, it is blatantly obvious this will be a bad season. Seth can motivate and prepare our guys to win a big game here or there, but its impossible to have a consistent, good season with a inconsistent, young team. And these guys aren't just young...... UNC, Duke, hell even NC State and others have young FIVE star players across the board getting playing time. Our current young players are the type of young guys who should have a year or two as role players off the bench before being asked to make starter-like contributions (DFS, Brown).
I think in a year or two this team will be good enough to make the tourney again (like we should have the past few years).... but for now we need to take a collective dose of reality and not blame the coach for unrealistic expectations from our fans
