    So, just to verify, the loss to a terrible Wake team was not really a bad loss as

    most thought. I guess everyone is in agreement that the FSU loss at home is a bad, bad loss? Obviously,this going to be a rough year. Do most think this can be fixed next year or do we have major issues for awhile? Green is really good, but it is hard to see a Jeff Allen, MD, DW, Dowdell, Gorton, etc type of player on this team. Tell me I am WAY off.

    According to many on this board, CSG is an amazing recruiter.......so you should not worry at all................

    This year's team is very young. Last two year's team had significant injuries, so the talented guys (JA and MD)either got worn down and beat to hell (MD) or was undersized AND had a propensity for silly fouls (JA). Seth's shortfall is his inability to land a beefy big guy, but he's a good recruiter. It's not quite as simple as you say.

    I think SG is a good recruiter but not necessarily a good roster assembler.

    From everything I read, SG has a well deserved rep as a tireless and persistent recruiter, in the sense that he will outwork and outhustle many of his contemporaries to close the deal on someone he wants. He's also an articulate and entertaining ambassador for the program, I would imagine he talks a pretty good game when sitting in a prospective player's living room.

    Where I think he falls short is that he tends to recruit the same type of player over and over. His rosters seem to consistently be filled with tweener types between 6'3 and 6'7, guys who are athletic, good defenders, but not necessarily great on basketball fundamentals. When people complain that we don't have any great spot up shooters, or true post players, I think that is a conscious choice. There are competent big guys out there and good 3 point shooters out there who SG does not recruit because he probably thinks they are too slow or not defense-oriented enough for our system. When we do sign those type of players, they inevitably leave the team because they either never see the court or are have a very short leash when they do get PT.

    I think it's fine for any coach to recruit a certain mold of player for the core roster but I'd like to see SG be more flexible in adding other component pieces that may add a different skill set to the team. Particularly in the case of big guys, I realize it's not easy to find quality players, but it wouldn't hurt to have some size just for the sake of size when we find ourselves matched up against the likes of FSU's big man.

    Bill Foster recruited like this at Clemson and VT. 6'5-6'9 types with long arms and able to play multiple positions. Usually they were athletic types whose shooting ranges were limited, but could get after it defensively just because of their athleticism. Foster was another NIT regular (his teams made it to the NCAA's twice in his career).

    I guess when you can't select from McDonald's AA you have to get guys that will stay 4 years and get better each year.
