I personally think we'd be nuts to replace Beamer at this point. However, I wanted to get an idea of who those that want Beamer gone would pick to replace him.
My own opinion, if we couldn't haul in a Saban/Miles/Meyer stature coach, we wouldn't be able to replace him with anyone you could reasonably expect to do better at VT.

For those that want to replace Beamer - replace with who?

That's just crazy talk. There will be no replacing Beamer until Fancy Gap Frank decides he's done and hangs up his whistle. The man has earned the right to finish his career on his terms. It's that simple.

Nobody. I want Frank to shake the offense up (again and again) until he gets it right. I'd also like him to impose a no attempted block, noo fake punt rule on himself for bowl games played in New Orleans.

Don't want to replace Beamer, but I would like someone to put pressure on him. I don't know with the staff that we have that we can get any further than a 10 win season with an ACC Championship and usually losing to a better team in the bowl, which is certainly nothing to complain about. Living in the DC area, the UMD program always reminds me of how bad it COULD be.
No one in Blacksburg has the cojones to fire Beamer, and I'm not sure they even have enough to put real pressure on him to do more. Also, from what I've read repeatedly the big money donors are relatively satisfied with the success of the program and aren't really pushing for more (not that one can really blame them, considering that the big money donors likely remember the pre-Beamer era and are happy with where the program is) I do respect Beamer for shaking up the staff by adding Brown and Shane Beamer. I really hope Shane can bring in better recruits and Brown should be a good addition to the defensive staff.
Its hard to be too critical of Stiney/O'Cain looking at the numbers from this year but I still don't like our overall OL play against the better opponents and I still find myself pulling my hair out at some of the offensive play calling. However, I don't know that we have the offensive minds on this staff to really take us to (and win) a National Title. MV1 isn't coming back and I don't really believe Logan Thomas will be able to carry the team the way Vick did and put us in the MNC game.
On defense, the lack of pressure on Beamer trickles down to a lack of pressure on Foster and while Bud is certainly a fantastic coach his scheme and tendency to go with smaller players (especially in the front 7) can be frustrating at times when they get worked by a bigger OL. Obviously that wasn't the case in the Sugar Bowl and I have to give credit to Foster and his staff, the defense played the game of their lives. However, Foster should not be immune to criticism--it seems to me that he gets a free pass by a huge portion of the fanbase because of his success, which is fair in part but when the defense DOES struggle in a big game he should shoulder the blame.
So what do we do? Do we give O'Cain time (though his resume at Clemson wasn't overly impressive) and hope that the addition of Shane will bring in recruits? I think that is exactly what Beamer will do and unless the team really starts struggling over a few years I doubt anyone who has the money or power to do anything about it will complain. Again, I think the younger fans (myself included) have only really seen the successful VT teams and want more, whereas the real movers and shakers are older and remember the tough times VT went through before we were routinely winning 10 games and going to ACC Championships and BCS games and are somewhat satisfied with the program. I would love to see a young, new offensive mind brought in that can match the success that Foster has had on the other side of the ball but I don't see Beamer doing that while he's at the helm.Last edited by HammerTime; Wed Jan 11 2012 at 12:47 PM.

You still assume that there are coaches who could take the same players and do more with them. That is a long way from proven. Secondly you assume you could "pressure" Frank and keep what you think is the good. What the old guys know is that to improve on the total package Frank is delivering today will take the 2nd best coach ever at VT. That is a longshot to get.
