Tech’s 6-6 mark hard-earned
It wasn’t the 38-0 coronation that Virginia Tech enjoyed in last year’s romp over Virginia. But this isn’t a football season that’s ending with a berth in a BCS bowl game, as last year did. VT Basketball News

A post-game wrap: Defense, Journell’s field goal make Hokies bowl eligible with 17-14 win against UVa
OK, here’s a full wrap of our coverage from the game, starting with the stories in the newspaper. They include: -
A year after missing the postseason, Virginia Tech’s Cody Journell kicks Hokies into bowl game
There was a time not all that long ago when Virginia Tech’s Cody Journell didn’t even know if he’d be allowed to kick for the Hokies ever again. But after missing on last season’s Sugar Bowl because of legal issues, Journell’s right foot delivered Virginia Tech its 20th straight bowl appearance with a clutch kick for the second time in two weeks. -
Cavaliers finally earn shot at win, only to clock out
During the postmortems underneath Lane Stadium, Mike London was questioned about a couple decisions that left the Virginia head coach vulnerable to second-guessing. -
Cody Journell kicks Hokies to ninth straight win over Cavs
It was by no means pretty, but Virginia Tech’s worst season in 20 years will end with a bowl game. -
Cody Journell no stranger to big-time kicks
Cody Journell did not play in Virginia Tech's last bowl game. -
Game’s outcome mattered greatly to Hokies and Cavaliers
To many, Saturday's game between the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech had little meaning and was of little interest. -
HOKIES SAVE STREAK
After Cody Journell extended the Hokies' season with a 29-yard field goal as time expired Saturday in a 17-14 win against rival Virginia, senior linebacker Bruce Taylor sat in the postgame interview room at Lane Stadium, clutching the Commonwealth Cup in one arm close to his chest. -
Hokies sniff out fake field goal
Down a touchdown and with Virginia lining up for a 38-yard field goal, Virginia Tech was on the ropes in the third quarter of Saturday's game. -
Thomas carries Tech on cold day
We're supposed to say you could see it in his eyes, right? That's the stock line here? Determination. Fortitude. Moxie. Just check the peepers, and you'll see. -
Virginia Coach Mike London’s clock management takes center stage after Virginia Tech loss
Virginia ultimately lost its ninth straight game to Virginia Tech on Saturday because its offense couldn’t find an answer for Bud Foster’s blitzes and its defense wore down with the Hokies on the field so much. ACC Football News

Seldom used Scales a productive runner for Tech
Fans in the stands clamor for it. Sportswriters debate it. Even he has to wonder. Why doesn’t Virginia Tech give senior running back Martin Scales the football more often? -
The good news: Hokies, Cavs not far away
When I think about this season years from now, I'll remember two things: 1) the subpar record, whatever it winds up being; and 2) the fact that Virginia Tech never really identified and developed a bellcow running back. -

What went wrong for Cavaliers football in 2012?
Few people expected Virginia football to take off following an eight-win season in 2011, when the Cavaliers played in the Chick-fil-A Bowl. For one thing, Virginia was beaten badly in its last two games, the regular-season finale against visiting Virginia Tech (38-0) and the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Auburn (43-24), and lost seven defensive starters. -

Familiar foe breeds friendly — or possibly unfriendly — trash talk in battle for Commonwealth Cup
Virginia Tech James Gayle isn’t shy about going up against good competition, so if Virginia right tackle Morgan Moses can’t play this week because of a lower leg injury, the Hokies’ defensive end wouldn’t mind pairing up with the Cavaliers’ All-ACC right tackle Oday Aboushi. -

After benching, Davis responds with big half
In many ways, Marcus Davis could be the poster boy for this disappointing Virginia Tech football season. Undeniably gifted and often highly productive, Davis has also been frustratingly inconsistent in his senior year as a wide receiver for the Hokies. -
After big game at BC, receiver Marcus Davis glad he could give detractors ‘something else to talk about’
