They get caught in jerseys and facemasks. They get cleated. They take crown shots from helmets. They get pinched and sometimes the skin “de-gloves,” which is exactly what it sounds like. They get cut and slashed over and over until the scabs finally have time to settle into mottled scars. They get twisted and bent backwards beneath piles. It can be unpleasant.

I have mallet fingers on the 4th fingers of both hands. Non significant but were painful when they occurred.
I broke my right pinkie playing rugby over 25 years ago. Ripped off skin and whatever to the bone. Still hurts and is nonfunctional to this day.
I know everybody remembers this:

i dislocated a finger 3 months ago playing football and have a new respect for fingers. 6 weeks in a splint and more knowledge about extensor tendons and pip joints then anyone should have to learn.
Ain’t injuries grand?
