The “Week In Review” feature, a recap of how Virginia Tech’s recruits performed in the previous week, will be posted weekly throughout the 2012 regular season and through the playoffs. Fans can check out previous weeks by clicking on links at the bottom of this update.
Last week’s recap is a brief one, as only two Virginia Tech commitments (including high school seniors and juniors) were in action.
- Carlis Parker, QB, Statesville (N.C.)
Charlotte Catholic was too much for Statesville, cruising to a 55-19 win in the Class 3-AA Western Regional championship. Statesville (13-2) had a great season, but its offense was held to just 13 points through three quarters in last week’s loss. Parker now looks ahead to Virginia Tech, where he plans to enroll in January.
- Anthony Shegog, S/ATH, North Stafford (Stafford, VA)
Shegog rushed 10 times for 162 yards and three touchdowns as North Stafford captured the Division 5, Northwest Region title with a 49-12 win over Mountain View. It is the second straight regional championship for the Wolverines, who host Lake Taylor (Norfolk) this week in the Division 5 state semifinals.
Shegog added a 14-yard touchdown reception in the blowout win over the Wildcats, who played without senior leader DaeSean Hamilton. Hamilton, still a target of Tech’s, was sidelined with a broken collarbone suffered the previous week. Shegog has totaled 430 yards of offense and eight touchdowns in the last two games.
