Shegog Dominates For North Stafford

The “Week In Review” feature, a recap of how Virginia Tech’s recruits performed in the previous week, will be posted weekly throughout the 2012 regular season and through the playoffs.  Here is how Tech’s class did this past week…

- Kyle Chung, OL/TE/DL, Ponte Vedra (FL)

The Sharks (9-2) dropped a heartbreaker to Bishop Kenny, 16-13, in the opening round of the Class 5A playoffs.

- Charles Clark Jr., DB/RB, King’s Fork (Suffolk, VA)

King’s Fork was one of the surprises of the Southeastern District, finishing with a 7-4 record.  The Bulldogs lost by only one point in the Division 5, Eastern Region quarterfinals.  For his performance, Clark was named Southeastern District Defensive Player of the Year.  It is the second consecutive year he has received the honor.  He was named first-team all-Southeastern District at punt returner and defensive back, and second-team at running back and kick returner.

- Brandon Facyson (CB/WR), Northgate (Newnan, GA)

Northgate saw its 2012 season come to an end at the hands of Harris County, which defeated the Vikings (5-6), 31-14, in the first round of the Class AAAAA playoffs.  Facyson’s 15-yard touchdown reception cut Harris County’s lead to 17-7 at the half.  Northgate closed to 17-14 before Harris had 14 unanswered points to finish off the game.

- Holland Fisher (S/LB). Manchester (Midlothian, VA)

Manchester’s season is complete.  Fisher and company were 7-3 in 2012.

- Kendall Fuller, CB/WR, Good Counsel (Olney, MD)

Kendall Fuller and UVa-bound signal caller Brendan Marshall hooked up for three touchdown passes as Good Counsel defeated DeMatha, , in the WCAC championship game.  In total, Fuller had nine catches for 129 yards and the three scores in the win.  This is the fourth straight WCAC title for the Falcons (11-1).

- Bucky Hodges, QB, and Andrew Motu’apuaka, LB, Salem (Virginia Beach, VA)

Oscar Smith overcame a late interception by Motu’apuaka to defeat Salem, 34-28, in an Eastern Region Division 6 semifinal.  Hodges had one touchdown pass and a touchdown run for the SunDevils (10-2), who led 28-27 heading into the 4th quarter.

- Cequan Jefferson, CB, Henrico (VA)

The Warriors closed out the 2012 season with two straight wins after losing the first eight games.

- Jameion Moss, LB, Northeastern (Elizabeth City, N.C.)

Northeastern fell to Tarboro, 52-24, in the third round of the Class 2A state playoffs.  Moss and company went 11-2 this year.

- Deon Newsome (Class of 2013), ATH, and Marshawn Williams (Class of 2014), RB, Hampton (VA)

Newsome and Williams combined for three touchdowns (2 from Newsome, 1 from Williams), but a late interception foiled Hampton’s comeback plans.  The Crabbers (8-3) fell to Phoebus, 21-19, in the Eastern Region Division 6 semifinals.

Williams had 65 yards rushing, while Newsome had 112 yards passing.  TSL Pass subscribers can read more on the latter in this article from last week.

- Parker Osterloh, OL, Warhill (Williamsburg, VA)

Warhill’s season is over.  Osterloh and company finish with a 6-5 record that included a playoff appearance.

- Carlis Parker, QB, Statesville (N.C.)

Statesville downed South Point, 27-21, to advance to the Class 3AA state semifinals.  The Greyhounds (13-1) meet Charlotte Catholic this week.

Braxton Pfaff, OL, Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA)

Liberty Christian (10-1) defeated Fork Union, 35-14, to capture the VIS Division 1 state championship.

- David Prince, ATH, Patrick Henry (Roanoke, VA)

Patrick Henry’s season is complete.  The Patriots finished with an 8-3 record and made the playoffs for the first time since 2000.

- DJ Reid, ATH, Thomas Dale (Chester, VA)

Thomas Dale’s season is complete.  The Knights finished with a 4-6 record.

- Anthony Shegog, S/ATH, North Stafford (Stafford, VA)

North Stafford (10-1) defeated Brooke Point, 41-14, in the Northwest Region Division 5 semifinals.  The Wolverines will face DaeSean Hamilton and Mountain View in the regional finals this week.

Shegog had a touchdown catch, a touchdown run, and an interception to help North Stafford pull away in the 4th.  In total, he had 12 rushes for 179 yards and two touchdowns, four catches for 75 yards and two touchdowns, and an interception.

- Wyatt Teller, DL/OL, Liberty (Bealeton, VA)

Briar Woods was too much for Liberty in the Region II, Division 4 semifinals.  The Falcons defeated the Eagles (7-5), 42-14.

VT’s Class of 2014

- Xavier Burke, DL/TE, Brunswick County (Lawrenceville, VA)

The Bulldogs finished 2012 with a 5-6 record.

- Ja’Von Harrison, ATH, Kathleen (Lakeland, FL)

Kathleen’s season is over.  The Red Devils finished with a 6-4 record, barely missing out on postseason action.

- Vinny Mihota, DE/OL, Massaponax (Fredericksburg, VA)

Massaponax ended the year with a 7-4 overall record.
