The “Week In Review” feature, a recap of how Virginia Tech’s recruits performed in the previous week, will be posted weekly throughout the 2012 regular season and through the playoffs. Here is how Tech’s class did this past week…
- Kyle Chung, OL/TE/DL, Ponte Vedra (FL)
Ponte Vedra finished with an 8-1 regular season record. The Sharks, District 4-5A champs, will host Bishop Kenny in the playoffs on November 16.
- Charles Clark Jr., DB/RB, King’s Fork (Suffolk, VA)
King’s Fork saw its 2012 season come to an end in heartbreaking fashion. In an Eastern Region, Division 5 quarterfinal, Lakeland scored on a 31-yard touchdown pass with just 10 seconds remaining to defeat the Bulldogs, 16-15. Clark rushed 10 times for 121 yards for Joe Jones’ team, which finished with a 7-4 record.
- Brandon Facyson (CB/WR), Northgate (Newnan, GA)
The Vikings (5-5) downed Mundy’s Mill, 15-3, to advance to the Region 4-AAAA playoffs. Facyson had a 14-yard touchdown reception in the win, which was Northgate’s third in a row.
- Holland Fisher (S/LB). Manchester (Midlothian, VA)
Manchester and Midlothian totaled 99 points last Friday night, but the Lancers got the win, 56-43. Fisher and company finished the 2012 season with a 7-3 record.
- Kendall Fuller, CB/WR, Good Counsel (Olney, MD)
Kendall Fuller had a 39-yard touchdown run and an interception as Good Counsel defeated St. John’s, 21-7, in the WCAC semifinals. The Falcons (10-1) meet arch-rival DeMatha this Sunday in the championship game.
Fuller added two catches for 47 yards. Follow this link to see game highlights.
- Bucky Hodges, QB, and Andrew Motu’apuaka, LB, Salem (Virginia Beach, VA)
Hodges was sidelined with a hand injury but Salem (10-1) still managed to pull out an 18-13 win over Grassfield in the Eastern Region, Division 6 quarterfinals. It is not known for sure whether the Tech-bound signal caller will be able to go for this week’s semifinal match-up against Oscar Smith. Sun Devils head coach Robert Jackson believes Hodges will be able to play.
- Cequan Jefferson, CB, Henrico (VA)
Jefferson had three touchdowns (two receiving, one 79-yard kick-off return) as Henrico defeated Armstrong, 35-30. The Warriors closed out the 2012 season with two straight wins after losing the first eight games. Jefferson had 146 yards receiving to go along with his three scores.
- Jameion Moss, LB, Northeastern (Elizabeth City, N.C.)
Northeastern avenged a regular season loss to Holmes with a 40-8 win in the second round of the Class 2A state playoffs. Moss and company will meet Tarboro in the quarterfinals this Friday night.
- Deon Newsome (Class of 2013), ATH, and Marshawn Williams (Class of 2014), RB, Hampton (VA)
Newsome totaled 195 yards of offense (109 rushing, 86 passing) and two touchdowns as Hampton (9-2) rolled over Norcom, 34-6, in the Eastern Region, Division 5 quarterfinals. Arch-rival Phoebus awaits this week in the semifinals.
- Parker Osterloh, OL, Warhill (Williamsburg, VA)
Warhill’s 2012 season came to an end with a 21-7 loss to Courtland in the first round of the Region I, Division 4 playoffs. Osterloh and company finish with a 6-5 record.
- Carlis Parker, QB, Statesville (N.C.)
Statesville defeated Erwin, 41-29, in the second round of the Class 3AA state playoffs. The Greyhounds (12-1) will take on unbeaten South Point in the quarterfinals this week.
Parker continues to share quarterbacking duties with ECU-bound athlete Tristan Mumford. The latter rushed for over 100 yards and four scores last week.
- Braxton Pfaff, OL, Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA)
LCA (9-1) defeated Collegiate, 56-21, in the VIS Division 1 semifinals. The Bulldogs will meet Fork Union in the state title game this Friday night.
- David Prince, ATH, Patrick Henry (Roanoke, VA)
Patrick Henry (8-3) saw its season come to an end with a 27-20 loss to Colonial Forge in the Northwest Region, Division 6 quarterfinals. The Patriots trailed by 14 heading into the fourth quarter. Prince’s 1-yard touchdown run cut the deficit to seven, but that’s as close at Patrick Henry would get. The Virginia Tech-bound athlete concluded an excellent high school career with 85 yards rushing and 61 yards passing, though he completed only four of 14 passing attempts.
- DJ Reid, ATH, Thomas Dale (Chester, VA)
Thomas Dale’s disappointing season ended on a winning note as the Knights (4-6) captured a 43-6 victory over Colonial Heights. DJ Reid had a 36-yard touchdown run in the win.
- Anthony Shegog, S/ATH, North Stafford (Stafford, VA)
North Stafford (9-1) was idle having earned a bye in the Northwest Region, Division 5 playoffs. The Wolverines will host Brooke Point this Friday night in the region semifinals.
- Wyatt Teller, DL/OL, Liberty (Bealeton, VA)
Liberty defeated Sherando, 27-10, in the Region II, Division 4 quarterfinals. Teller had four carries for 26 yards and a fumble in the win. The Eagles (7-4) move on to face defending state champion Briar Woods in the semifinals this Friday night.

VT’s Class of 2014
- Xavier Burke, DL/TE, Brunswick County (Lawrenceville, VA)
Brunswick lost to Park View, 26-0, in the first round of the Region 1, Division 4 playoffs. The Bulldogs finish 2012 with a 5-6 record.
- Ja’Von Harrison, ATH, Kathleen (Lakeland, FL)
Harrison had five catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns, including a 59-yard touchdown reception that tied the game with less than a minute left, but Kathleen (6-4) lost in overtime to Lakeland, 28-27. Kathleen’s 2-point conversion attempt in the extra period was unsuccessful, giving Lakeland the one-point final advantage.
- Vinny Mihota, DE/OL, Massaponax (Fredericksburg, VA)
Massaponax couldn’t contain Mountain View, losing to the Wildcats by 24 points in the first round of the Northwest Region, Division 5 playoffs. The Panthers (7-4) return quite a few key players next season, including Mihota.
Virginia Tech wide receiver/defensive back target DaeSean Hamilton had three touchdowns for Mountain View.
