Parker Helps Statesville To Conference Title

The “Week In Review” feature, a recap of how Virginia Tech’s recruits performed in the previous week, will be posted weekly throughout the 2012 regular season and through the playoffs.  Here is how Tech’s class did this past week…

- Kyle Chung, OL/TE/DL, Ponte Vedra (FL)

The Sharks shutout Creekside, 20-0, to secure a second straight District 4-5A championship crown.  The team is now 7-1 overall this season.

The St. Augustine Record has an article on Ponte Vedra’s successful head coach, Mike Loyd.  TSL Pass subscribers, in case you missed, check out our last report on Chung.

- Charles Clark Jr., DB/RB, King’s Fork (Suffolk, VA)

Clark erupted for six touchdowns (four rushing, one 65-yard interception return, one 80-yard kick-off return) as King’s Fork (7-2) hammered Deep Creek, 60-0.

- Brandon Facyson (CB/WR), Northgate (Newnan, GA)

Northgate got back in the win column by beating Starr’s Mill, 27-10.  The Vikings are 3-5.

- Holland Fisher (S/LB). Manchester (Midlothian, VA)

The Lancers (5-3) took down Huguenot, 41-0.  This was the second straight shutout for Tom Hall’s squad.

- Kendall Fuller, CB/WR, Good Counsel (Olney, MD)

Good Counsel soundly defeated O’Connell, 30-0.  The Falcons are 8-1 overall and undefeated in WCAC play.

- Bucky Hodges, QB, and Andrew Motu’apuaka, LB, Salem (Virginia Beach, VA)

Motu’apuaka and the Salem defense held Tallwood scoreless while Hodges and the offense racked up 42 points in last week’s Beach District contest.  The 6’6″ Hodges had 217 yards of offense, including 141 yards passing and 76 yards rushing.  Motu’apuaka added a 5-yard touchdown run for the SunDevils (8-1).

- Cequan Jefferson, CB, Henrico (VA)

Jefferson had a 12-yard touchdown catch but Henrico (0-8) fell to Highland Springs, 41-13.  Jefferson has scored three times in the past two games.

- Jameion Moss, LB, Northeastern (Elizabeth City, N.C.)

Holmes remains unbeaten after a hard-fought 27-21 win over Northeastern, which falls to 9-2.

- Deon Newsome (Class of 2013), ATH, and Marshawn Williams (Class of 2014), RB, Hampton (VA)

Hampton enjoyed a 49-0 blowout victory over Kecougtan.  The Crabbers, now 8-1, will meet arch-rival Phoebus in the regular season finale this week.

Prior to the Kecoughtan game, Williams had rushed 112 times for 838 yards and 14 touchdowns.  Newsome had totaled 1,524 yards of offense (768 passing, 756 rushing) and 19 scores (10 passing, 9 rushing).

- Parker Osterloh, OL, Warhill (Williamsburg, VA)

Warhill clinched a spot in the Division 4, Region 1 playoffs when it defeated Tabb last week.  The team is 5-4 heading into this week’s regular season finale against Jamestown.

- Carlis Parker, QB, Statesville (N.C.)

Statesville (10-1, 6-0) clinched its first conference championship since 1999 with a 56-6 blowout of South Rowan.  Parker connected on touchdown passes of 45 and 46 yards in the win.  The Greyhounds will host Enka in the first round of the state playoffs this week.

Braxton Pfaff, OL, Liberty Christian Academy (Lynchburg, VA)

Liberty Christian dominated Blue Ridge, 54-0.  The Bulldogs are 7-1 heading into this week’s match-up against Benedictine.

- David Prince, ATH, Patrick Henry (Roanoke, VA)

After three years of blowout losses to Franklin County, Patrick Henry returned the favor with a 42-7 victory.  The Patriots are 7-2 and will clinch a playoff berth with a win this week.

Prince, featured in a TSL Pass update last week, completed six passes in 11 tries for 107 yards.  He added 39 yards rushing, including a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

- DJ Reid, ATH, Thomas Dale (Chester, VA)

Thomas Dale just can’t find a consistent rhythm this season.  Last week, the Knights fell to a quality Meadowbrook squad by a score of 33-19.  They drop to 3-5 on the season.

Reid turned in another solid effort, rushing for 133 yards and a touchdown.

- Anthony Shegog, S/ATH, North Stafford (Stafford, VA)

Anthony Shegog’s 7-yard touchdown run gave North Stafford a 21-14 lead in overtime.  The Wolverines intercepted a pass on Battlefield’s ensuing position and came away with a quality non-district win.  North Stafford is now 8-1.

Shegog accounted for 76 yards of offense (61 rushing, 15 receiving) and the game-winning touchdown.  He came through big on defense as well, assisting on two key turnovers.  For the entire game story, following this link.

- Wyatt Teller, DL/OL, Liberty (Bealeton, VA)

Liberty cruised to a 42-14 win over Brentsville.  With a win over Fauquier this week, the 5-4 Eagles will capture a share of the Evergreen District title.

VT’s Class of 2014

- Xavier Burke, DL/TE, Brunswick County (Lawrenceville, VA)

Brunswick rolled over Southampton, 44-13, for its third straight victory.  The Bulldogs are 4-5 and will host Greensville County this week.

- Ja’Von Harrison, ATH, Kathleen (Lakeland, FL)

Harrison’s two touchdowns weren’t enough as Kathleen (5-3) was edged out by Lake Gibson, 15-13.  The Tech-bound junior finished the game with four catches for 101 yards.

Kathleen will need to win this week and help in order to secure a playoff berth.

- Vinny Mihota, DE/OL, Massaponax (Fredericksburg, VA)

Massaponax turned in perhaps its best performance of the season last week, when it defeated a good Colonial Forge team by a score of 59-30.  The Panthers improve to 6-3 on the season.
