I posted these quick figures back in May during the peak of realignment excitement; I think more than a few are relevant to the ACC’s current thinking (and possible future thoughts): http://secondlevelfootball.wordpress.com/2012/05/23/quantifying-notre-dame/

Who have they beaten thats ranked, or even any good in years. Not exciting at all , until they improve. I dont think they bring the fear of God to anyone anymore. But all in all they have name recognition.
You can love ND or you can hate ND. With most fans, it is usually one or the other. This is, none the less, a good deal for the ACC because it brings more prestige and big game presence to the ACC brand and at the same time it resolves a number loose issues such as ACC long term viability as a conference and the ability to keep its membership in check.

Dude, never gonna happen! We all want ND as a full member but their heads are too big to enter the doorway, and as Mike & Mike clearly stated – why would they – why would they not take their own football contract for BIG $$ as long as it is offered! It will be offered again but I can’t understand why.
Two bowl game victories since 1995 – that says it all – irrelevance like a pig with lipstick. Although, you gotta admit, there is a large can of whoop-A that come with ND in the form of prestige.
Academically solid. Historically one of the best. Sure, let’s add their trophies to our case. We can all celebrate the day ND knuckles under and joins for football, but don’t hold your breath.
Best to Hokie Nation, GO HOKIES!

Very enlightening. It’s obvious why the ACC … or any conference for that matter … would find adding Notre Dame to be extremely attractive from a financial point of view.
Having Notre Dame in the ACC, even if only as a partial member for football, will increase the league’s profile dramatically and will firmly establish it as THE dominant conference along the east coast of the USA, which is still where most TV sets are located. No longer will we have to worry about the ACC being picked apart in the conference realignment wars. Its long-term survival is now assured.
My guess is that once Notre Dame’s current TV deal with NBC expires, which I think happens in 2015, you’ll see a defined roadmap put in place to make them full conference members in football as well and the ACC’s current TV deal with ABC/ESPN will be renegotiated.
