VT Men’s Basketball Scores Commitment

The Virginia Tech men’s basketball program has gained a verbal commitment from William Fleming (Roanoke, VA) rising sophomore shooting guard Warren Craft, the Roanoke Times reports.

The 6’2″ Craft averaged 12.3 points per game as a freshman in 2011/2012, helping the Colonels to a 14-11 overall record.  He is Tech’s first commitment in the class of 2015, and he is James Johnson’s first commitment since becoming the Hokies’ head coach.

A multi-sport star at Fleming, Craft participates in the high jump, long jump and triple jump events in track.  He earned second-team all-Timesland honors for his performance in the triple jump this past spring.

Inital attempts to reach Craft have been unsuccessful, but we plan to have much more on this basketball recruiting development in the coming days.

  1. There’s nothing wrong with recruiting for the future. But for the present, wouldn’t it be nice to see a couple of 7’0″, long armed, quick and agile, post players so some of our #5 guys could actually play the #4 and #3 slots where they are best suited?

  2. So, We just signed a Guy entering his Sophomore year of High School, almost a month from now. Boy, I can’t wait to see him play at Tech, with so and so, and what’s his name,
can you imagine the possibilities? Give me a break. If our enfeebled AD’s lazy hiring of
Johnson doesn’t work out, this signing really means nothing. Sign some JUCO’s, anybody.
We are building for the Future, as in next year, not 3 years from now. Fleming is no Oak Hill, We never saw Ben Boggs hardly, and JJ(the real deal), never even gave us any Lip Service at all, or any other Virginia school for that matter. Yet, the Roanoke Valley feted him and George Lynch(Carolina) like Gods. Both were Traitors, let Carolina honor them. If this kid really does turn out to be a Superstar, I still say it’s way too early, We certainly won’t keep him, Kentucky, etc. will swoop in. This smacks of Desperation, and Janine is 100% correct.

  3. PLEASE GENTLEMEN—A ‘RISING SOPHMORE” COMMITMENT—I ADMIRE THE EARLY SPOTTING OF POTENTIAL HOKIE TALENT—BUT REALLY–IT IS LIKE STANDING ON QUICK SAND!!

    GOOD LUCK!

    • I get that you are not impressed because he is only a sophomore but “standing on quicksand” is never going to work and in this case you can’t say that definitively. He may become a superstar, so go back to your book of quotations and find something more appropriate. Try looking under the Risk/Reward section instead of the Negative Thinkers section.

  4. It’s a long time to 2015 — if Duke comes calling — we will see.

    • Not Duke caliber. Don’t worry.

      • With Janine and Tech so called Fanz, you see two people who have no clue what they are talking about and post crap like this. This kid is and will be the real deal as I have seen the likes of JJ and Ben Boggs etc etc and this kid can play the game and started on his varsity squad as a freshman, not to mention he is a great young young man and student and comes from a solid family. I saw your Duke caliber JJ play when he was this kids age and he has a much better all around game now that JJ. So shame on you both for posting negative feedback on what it a cery good get for VT and coach Johnson. I just hope we can hang on to him. Enough said and go Hokies.
