Six Left For RB Derrick Green

Auburn, Michigan, Mississippi, Oregon, Tennessee and Virginia Tech are the finalists for Hermitage (Richmond, VA) rising senior running back Derrick Green.  The 6’0″, 230-pound prospect revealed his finalists via Facebook this afternoon.

One of the most coveted running back recruits in the nation, Green landed over 30 major scholarship offers.  He is rated a 5-star prospect by Rivals.com, and ESPN and Scout rank him as a 4-star recruit.  Green is the no. 2 overall recruit in the state in the TechSideline.com Preseason Top 40.

Green initially cut his list to 13 earlier this summer.  This latest cut comes the week Hermitage, which reached the Group AAA Division 6 state finals in 2010 and state semifinals in 2011, opened preseason practice.  The Panthers open the 2012 season on August 25 against Fork Union Prep, a game that will be televised by ESPN.  The contest starts at 3:0o p.m.

  1. It would huge for our program and a first to land 2 five star recruits in one class

    • UVABasher, I applaud your positive thinking but let’s be realistic here. If Green were to sign with Tech, we all know Rivals would remove that 5th star. ; )

  2. It’s about time we had more quality RBs than we know what to do with. A good problem to have. Shane can handle being the RB Coach at RB University.,,,,,like we are already DBU. That Penn State xfer to USC did not hesitate to go there, KNOWING that USC is typically overflowing with quality RBs. A bunch of 5 star RBs, sitting on the pine.

  3. With VT going after Green and the current group of young RB’s, has this affected the chance of resigning Drew Harris? What is the word on his likelihood to resign with Tech?

    • Prolly not, but it’s a good problem to have. These TBs compete against each other, and drive each other, so the winner at starting TB is the best of the best.
