Notes: Green To Narrow List Again

A few Virginia Tech-related notes on the class of 2013 recruiting front…

- Hermitage (Richmond, VA) running back Derrick Green, one of the top rising senior running back prospects in the country, is poised to reveal his final five.  In fact, the 6’0″, 230-pound rising senior wrote on his Facebook page late Wednesday night that he will announce his final five on Thursday.

Green received over 30 major Division 1 scholarship offers before narrowing the field to 13 earlier this summer.  He later added Georgia, which joined Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Tennessee and Virginia Tech.  Recently, Green and Ohio State parted ways, which is significant because the Panthers standout grew up a Buckeye fan.

As soon as Green releases his final list, we’ll be sure to report it here on TSL.

- South County (Lorton, VA) linebacker/safety recruit Oren Burks will announce his college choice in just a few weeks.  This news was reported via text message by Oren’s father, Orlanda, who adds that his son has just picked up an offer from Miami.

Virginia Tech has offered the 6’4″, 195-pound Burks a greyshirt spot.  Other offers include Boston College, Cincinnati, Duke, Maryland, Miami, Nebraska, N.C. State, Penn State, Purdue, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Virginia and West Virginia.  Burks has visited most of the schools that have offered, but at this point no favorites have been revealed.

  1. Burks looks like a quality recruit. I know we have fewer scholarships this year, but when we are only offering a greyshirt spot, that says something about the quality of this years recruiting class.
