Notes: VT Back In With Top DE

- Stone Bridge (Ashburn, VA) star Jonathan Allen, one of the most highly recruited defensive end prospects in the class of 2013, is now considering five finalists, including Florida, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Penn State and Ohio State.  The 6’3″, 225-pound junior had narrowed his list to Alabama and Florida last month.

Read the latest on Allen in this Washington Post report.

- Virginia Tech has offered Ocean Lakes (Virginia Beach, VA) sophomore defensive tackle Derrick Nnadi, who is now up to five offers:  Illinois, N.C. State, Old Dominion, Virginia and Virginia Tech.  Tech and ODU came through for the promising class of 2014 prospect yesterday.  UVa offered on Wednesday.

At 6’3″, 305 pounds, Nnadi certainly has impressive size, particularly for a high school sophomore.

- On the basketball front, the Montrezl Harrell watch continues.  The 6’8″, 235-pound power forward, one of two seniors to sign with Virginia Tech last November, has yet to decide whether he will ask out of his letter of intent or stay with the Hokies.  Yesterday afternoon, Norm Wood of the Daily Press tweeted that Hargrave Military Academy (VA) star had yet to make a decision.

New Tech coach James Johnson was able to keep Rustburg (VA) forward Marshall Wood in the fold.

  1. To AXD1985: Meet me tomorrow at noon in front of the saloon. Who’s right will be proven by who who’s left! Swifty Morgan, “Support Your Gunfighter.”

  2. still like playing the lottery……we come a courtin’ with only our a good reputation, our heart,
and an offer of our hand…………..unfortunately, todays top players operate by one of two mottoes……’SHOW ME THE MONEY” (thanks tom cruise) or “NO CASH – NO MASH!!!”

will be crossing my fingers & toes but not holding my breath.

  3. The latest news out of Ohio State might affect a lot of the commits and prospects. The Buckeyes are damaged goods now.

  4. At some point these VA superstars will start to realize going out of state is not worth it in NFL draft status and money anymore. Tech gets them there.

  5. He does not really fit with Alabama’s 3-4 scheme unless he is on the outside as a backer. He seems like a better fit with us, OSU or Florida. Given that he visited here and that changed his mind is a very good sign. This is the type of recruit we need to succeed with. Top In state recruit that plays along the defensive front. Comes in with pretty good size and exceptional athleticism.

  6. Yeah, boom goes the dynamite

  7. Interestingly, Ohio State had not yet offered Allen when he made his list this week. During his sophomore season, however, Allen told a reporter that the Buckeyes were a favorite program to some in his family.

Thompson said Ohio State had not offered only because the Buckeyes did not know about Allen’s interest. Allen, who racked up 192 tackles and 35 sacks in two seasons, originally told Thompson not to reach out because he was unsure about the coaching change.

The junior said he no longer has any concerns, and Thompson said he was preparing to call Ohio State.

“I’m sure the situation will change in the next day,” Thompson said on Thursday.

One hour later, Thompson texted an update: “Ohio State offered Jon.”

    Boom. Case and point.

My hunch is Bama or OSU.
