TSL Pass subscribers: We have restored our article notification email service. That’s the feature where we send you an email when we post a new article.
For more details, click here to read our update.
A question for those of you who are TSL Pass (paid) subscribers, and who are interested in receiving article notification emails. How would you prefer we send out article notifications via email?
Note that we’re not necessarily going to set our schedule based on the results of the poll, we just want to know what you think.

I would like the option to have all of those options. So that I may set them depending on the season and my own schedule.
great job on the new site … i would like to have the option to turn off email notification. i check the site pretty regularly..
also, a stripped down site for mobile users would be great
One word – Tapatalk!
I don’t want the email notifications. I look at your site every day, and I can see the new articles if I want.
I would like an option to select what type of e-mails because some would like every article, some once a week, etc.
Personally, I would like an option for “Breaking News” e-mails only. So that I would only get e-mails for something like VT picking up a verbal, a coaching change, a major injury to a player, etc.
I come an read most of the articles and don’t really need an e-mail telling me when they are up, but I would really like “breaking news” type of notification.
I would like to see the preferences split. I check the site often enough that I don’t care to receive the “New Article” emails, but I don’t want to “unsubscribe” because I still want the “Account Expiration” emails…
My thoughts exactly. I don’t want an email for every new article but I would like to be notified when my subscription is going to expire. Like the new site.
Bring back the RSS feeds
That’s on the list of stuff to do.
Agreed. I’d much rather turn off the email notifications and just check my RSS. Current feeds are all mixed up.
+1
I like the article e-mail notifications EXCEPT for the game-day article summaries that disclose wheher or not the Hokies won or lost in a contest. I sometimes have other family committments that conflict with Hokie games, so I purposefully DVR the game and then plan to watch it later within a 24-hour period. I even go so far as to not wear any Hokie apparel if I am out and about for fear of the off-chance that some stranger will make reference to the outcome of a Hokie game that I have yet to watch.
I have been burned a couple of times by the SmartPhone TSL e-mail that provides a notification of the Hokie game results within the TSL Message Subject. So, my preference would be to eliminate those tyoes of TSL article e-mail notices, if possible.
Am I alone with my opinion here?
lol… hi there, I heard you’re from left field! how is it?
Interesting comment. We can easily eliminate those. Our old system sent emails out automatically — the new system is manual. So we just … won’t send those.
Agreed! I DVR about half the games based on scheduling conflicts. I make an effort not to accidentally check my email because of TSL. I’ve gotten snagged once or twice based on my phone’s email beeping. A good solution might be to always create generic title for the emails, like “VT vs BC game summary”… especially if it’s sent the same day as the game.
Being in the IT industry myself, my companies have created “Email Preferences” so a user can select their notification frequencies. It’s a good bit of investment and may be overly ambitious, but it does empower the user. At least you wouldn’t be bothering the roughly 15% that prefer less than once a day.
Will, one e-mail a day is fine with me. I visit the site alot during the day and see & read the articles. So it is fine just Once a day and hope that is what others pick. Easy for all, IMHO.
I get the update and I’m not a subscriber. Thought you’d like to know. I thought that was a generic TSL notice.
Glad to see that I’m in the majority on receiving an email each time an article is posted.
I usually read emails on my phone, and use my desktop to scan the boards.
I recognize all the hard work that’s gone into the new format, and I’ll also admit that I haven’t spent as much time here since the format changed.
HOWEVER, the biggest reason that I am a subscriber is the articles, so I’ll keep my subscription as long as those continue (and I don’t see any reason they’d stop).
Sorry to hear that you’ve lost some subscriptions over the new format – I think that’s a mistake on the part of those people, but it’s their loss.
As I spend more time on the boards (when spring practice is going, and certainly when Fall practice starts) I’ll come back around to spending more time on the boards.
Keep up the good work. I love the information you guys provide, and it’s well worth the $6/month.
Thanks. We’ll continue to work on making the new site full-featured over time. One thing readers need to realize is that it took us YEARS to build the old TSL site up to what it was, in terms of features, archives, etc. It’s going to take us time to build the new one back up to that level, as well.
We didn’t have the resources — time or money — to do everything pre-launch.
